Docker

Give container data a lifecycle of its own.

Docker storage decisions become clearer when you separate the application from the files it reads and writes. Configuration, source code, persistent records, and cached downloads often belong in different places. The articles collected here explain those differences and the ways they influence a project’s everyday workflow.

Start with the volume and bind mount comparison. Identify whether the host needs direct access to the files, which container should write them, and what must survive application replacement. The encryption article then adds a separate question: what protects the stored bytes when the host or a backup copy is unavailable to you?

For AI projects, extend the same thinking to model caches, datasets, and checkpoints. A convenient mount does not by itself answer whether a file is reproducible or worth preserving. Keep a short storage inventory with the project and practice restoring the important state before relying on the setup.
