Privacy & Encryption

Plan for private files and future access.

Encryption can protect stored data when its keys are unavailable, but the surrounding workflow matters just as much. Files may be readable while a workspace is open, copied elsewhere by an application, or missing from an incomplete backup. These guides help you identify those boundaries and make recovery part of the design from the beginning.

Choose the guide that matches your environment: a private Mac disk image, Linux LUKS storage, or an encrypted vault in a cloud workflow. Begin by naming what you want to protect and who should be able to unlock it. Then decide where credentials, recovery information, and backups will live. A separate backup is useful only when you can actually open and restore it.

Privacy also depends on habits. Close a workspace when its files are no longer needed, understand what synchronization changes, and avoid treating a successful unlock as proof that every old copy is protected. Use the articles to build a checklist you can revisit as your devices and needs change.
